A note from Starbound

So, what is Starbound?

Starbound started with a simple question:

What happens between knowing something about your health and actually being able to do something about it?

We started by talking to young people, including people experiencing vulnerability and barriers to care.

We listened to how they made decisions. Where they looked for answers. What stopped them from seeking help. What they Googled at 2am but might never tell a doctor. And how things like money, housing, stigma, culture and trust shaped what happened next.

Then we started connecting the dots.

Those conversations showed us something bigger.

People are constantly telling us what they need through the questions they ask, the things they search for and the places they turn to for help.

But much of that signal never reaches the people designing health services.

So we're building Starbound to connect the two.

For individuals, that means helping people navigate health information in a way that understands the context around their decisions, not just the question they typed.

For health organisations, it means turning patterns in digital help-seeking into intelligence about what communities are experiencing, where needs are emerging and where the system might be able to respond earlier.

And we're still listening.

Starbound isn't being built in isolation.

We're continuing to learn alongside young people, health organisations, researchers, clinicians, community organisations and people working with communities experiencing vulnerability.

Because if we're trying to understand what people really need from health systems, we think the best place to start is with the people themselves.
